Companies House ID Verification Guide

Companies House is introducing identity verification for directors and persons with significant control. All company officers need to understand what is required and when.

Who must verify?

Directors, PSCs, and those filing on behalf of companies will need to verify their identity through an authorised process. Existing officers will have transition periods; new appointments face requirements at incorporation or appointment.

What you need to do

  • Ensure personal details at Companies House are accurate and current
  • Complete verification when prompted — do not ignore correspondence
  • Keep evidence of verification for your records
  • Update your company’s register if details change

Consequences of non-compliance

Failure to verify may result in restrictions on filing, penalties, or the company being marked as non-compliant — affecting banking, contracts, and due diligence.
